Making Art from Your Children's Early Artwork

I recently sorted through the artwork that I had saved from my children's first years in school. I photocopied my oldest son's first drawing of a cat and made image transfers to polymer clay. I made earrings with a matching matchbox pendant necklace from the same image. I framed his original artwork and returned it to him on his 31st birthday.

I also made polymer clay magnets with transferred images from some of his other artwork. This is an envelope that he made for a Mother's Day card. This would make a good submission to Somerset Studio magazine!
Robert Genn, The Painter's Keys often has letters about children's art. Wild Child has letters in response to the first. More commentary is included in this link. This link has photos of drawings by a 3 years 5 months year old autistic girl. It seems even when the topic is not direct, artists still reflect on their art inspiration, influence, and exploration as children.
